The Social Maps is a group of websites, all doing the same thing. For example, the Leukedingenkaart.nl (Dutch for “Fun Things Map”) is a Twitter driven, automated map that shows realtime information about events, festivals, expositions, movies and other “fun things to do” on a map of The Netherlands. Using the Twitter Streaming API, the Leukedingenkaart scans tweets realtime, analyses the words for event type and city name, link for more information and filter out double mentions and irrelvant or spam tweets.
Leukedingenkaart.nl is one of many similar sites like Vacaturelandkaart.nl (same, but for vacancies), Huurhuizenkaart.nl (houses to rent), Koophuizenkaart.nl (houses for sale) and more and was featured in Financieel Dagblad, Emerce, well-known Dutch blogs and radio stations.
